JEN LOWE (US)
From the End of this Hallway

Waitress Song
Swing Or choke
coming to get you
Anywhere
Just the Rest
Hell
Tragedy
On a boat reprise

The music of Jen Lowe is best described as collection of delicate well crafted tunes full of well known influences, but never copying one artist. For her debut, Jen did as so many artists before her wrote about live in general.  Her own experiences, relationships and lifestyle are her main influences and like so many artists before her, it seems that once more this is a great source for song writing.

Her tunes are straight from the heart and many of them are up tempo songs, reflecting a happy girl, enjoying life.  Her background as percussionist /drummer gave her a nice ability to create solid songs with great rhythm but don’t underestimate her gently plucked guitar as well.
“The Waitress Song” opens this album, immediately followed by “Swing or Choke”. Both are typical Americana songs, sung with a sultry voice, a trademark Jen Lowe uses a couple of times on this album. “Life is more then coffee and a convenience store” she sings on The Waitress song and damned right she is. While “The Waitress Song” reflect the more acoustic  abilities of the lady, “Swing or Choke” takes on a more electric approach. “Coming To get You” is without doubt radio material and does need to get in the airwaves for sure.
“Hell” combines pop and Jazz (listen to the baseline) , while on “Tragedy” the lady explores a darker side of life.

“On A Boat Reprise” takes us back to the typical “Jen Lowe” sound and to “Coming To Get You”, cause it’s just a reprise of this tune, only a little shorter then the original track.  This is a nice conclusion to this debut album that somehow seems a bit short. Eight tracks is probably to much to call this an EP or mini album but I wouldn’t have mind an extra track or two, specially since the last track isn’t exactly that much different.  However with seven great tracks to choose from I can’t complain at all. While all of them are quite equally good, it is surprisingly Hell that I enjoyed most, a song that is not really typical for “From the End of this Hallway”.
